Mercy viewed the security monitor footage and saw Junior with a fully armored Trey in Crusader gear standing in the Emergency Room lobby behind the circular reception desk. Junior seemed extremely tense and nervous, fidgeting with an automatic rifle in his hands. Meanwhile, Trey seemed like an indomitable fortress, with an abnormally large hammer off to the side. Truthfully, it was hard to picture them as brothers.
The door to the room slid open and in walked an Omnic that moved like a human. It had feet and hands like a human, yet its face was pure metal but with 2 rows of 3 vertical red lights down the center of the head. It was the only part that looked alien when compared to his skeletal frame.
Trey immediately blurted out, “No escort?”
Unfazed, the Omnic kept walking.
Junior looked nervously at his brother before returning to the Omnic. “You’re... Marcion, I presume?”
“Is this a surrender, or a duel? Either way, does this mean the city is mine?”
“Um, neither.” Junior pushed past his fear and continued. “This is more of a warning.”
Marcion tilted his head sideways, like a dog.
“We adjure you to leave this place. This is the home of a prominent Overwatch agent, who will retaliate with the full force of Overwatch should you siege this city.”
“Is it?” Mercy could hear the sly sarcasm in Marcion’s voice as he halted a few feet from the brothers. He already knew Angela was from here, but without facial features, the sons of Sceva failed to see through Marcion’s lie. “Who, I wonder?”
Trey and Junior exchanged glances as they subconsciously tried to determine if they should give a name. Eventually, Junior exclaimed, “Does it matter? All Overwatch agents are incredibly--”
“Human,” Marcion finished for Junior.
Awkward silence filled the room before Trey interjected. “You say that like it’s an insult.”
“Oh, it is.” Marcion agreed. “Very much so. Think about it, Crusader. You dress in abnormally large armor. You make yourself seem larger than life itself. You want your enemies to see you as more than human. Overwatch is no different. They have super soldiers, spies, ninjas, you name it. They have doctors who strap wings to their backs and pretend to be angels from heaven. Why? Because being human is not enough. You so desperately want to bear a different image.”
Mercy could see Junior take a hesitant step back as Marcion continued. “It is why you come to me with a warning—that the citizens of Zurich are more than human. It is why you invoke Overwatch’s name and wear your Crusader armor. You want me frightened of your potential.”
Marcion took a casual step forward. “But I ask you two...”
Marcion moved another foot toward Junior. Trey reached out his armored hand defensively across his brother. “Overwatch I know...And I am familiar with you Crusaders...” Marcion’s six lights peered into Junior’s soul, who cautiously took another timid step back.
“...But who are you?”
Trey pushed Junior back as he stepped in front of the Omnic leader. Marcion grappled Trey’s armored glove and flipped around. Blue wings from Mercy’s first Valkyrie Suit spread from Marcion’s back as he rotated in the air upside down. Junior lifted his rifle and sprayed several shots toward the Omnic.
Marcion spinned away as blades of mirrored glass extended from the robot’s forearms. Still off the floor and upside down, the Omnic lunged at Trey and prodded the spaces between the Crusader Armor with precision. Trey gasped and continued to try and restrain Marcion, but the robot was simply too fast. Junior held his fire as the melee ensued to avoid hitting his beloved brother.
Marcion’s wings fluttered, dropping the Omnic to the ground in a crouched position. The Omnic immediately slashed at Trey’s feet with his blades. Trey struggled against this onslaught, desperately trying to kick and punch the elusive target. Eventually, he made contact and pushed his opponent off of him.
Marcion circled in the air for a bit before regaining composure—just in time to dodge another magazine from Junior. Trey, meanwhile, had finally grabbed his hammer ready to fight. But the robot was too fast. He avoided the first and only swing of the Crusader by ducking low, sliding under Trey’s legs. From there, Marcion pierced the side and the right leg of Trey with his mirrored blades. Trey gurgled in pain and fell back.
“Trey!” Junior shouted from the side. He fired a few more shots at the enemy. Marcion got hit a few times and soared upward. He crashed into the ceiling and was out of sight of Junior’s weapon.
Aside from Trey’s heavy breathing, silence filled the room. Junior kept the weapon pointing up and frantically looked around. “Trey! Stay with me. We’ll get you help!” Junior raced over to his brother but kept his focus around the ceiling.
But the attack didn’t come from the ceiling.
A window close to Junior’s position crashed open, sending Marcion flying into Junior. Bullets rang throughout the lobby, but none hit their target. Marcion’s cold, metal knee forcibly pushed onto Junior’s throat. Marcion displayed the blade from his wrist in front of Junior’s eyes.
“Nice...wings...” Junior croaked out. “She...inspire you...too?”
Marcion froze for a brief moment before replying. “You could say that. Mercy attaches some technology to her back and everyone suddenly thinks she transcends her humanity. If that’s all it takes, then let’s attach some technology to you and see what happens.”
“Why...the hate?” Junior grunted. “You...are so...much...like us...”
Marcion’s shoulders tensed up as his head looked to the ceiling in frustration. “I. Do NOT. Resemble. Your kind.” His forced his knee further into Junior’s neck.
“And when I’m done with you...”
Marcion pointed his blade at Junior’s delicate face. “You won't either!”
